Building a Sunroom in Hixson, TN That Homeowners Actually Use

Hixson sits right on the Tennessee River, and a lot of the homes here were built with a covered porch or a plain concrete patio that only gets used about four months out of the year. Come July, that porch is too hot to sit on past nine in the morning. Come January, it is closed off entirely.

A sunroom takes that same footprint and turns it into space you can use in every season.

We are ProDeck Builders Chattanooga, and outdoor living is what we build. Jose Martinez founded the company in 2020, and since then our crews have completed more than 500 projects across decks, patios, porches, and sunrooms throughout the Chattanooga area, Hixson included.

Every sunroom starts with a free, same-day 3D rendering so you can see the room before a single post goes in the ground.

From there, our team handles design, permitting through Hamilton County, and construction as one connected process, so you are not managing three separate contractors to get one room built.

What Hixson Homeowners Are Saying

We hear from a lot of Hixson homeowners once their sunroom is finished, and most of them tell us the same thing: they wish they had called sooner.

We worked with Jose at MTZ to get our sunroom redone (from a DIY sunroom a previous owner had built to a properly finished one) and a back patio added where a deck used to be.

There were a number of hiccups (not MTZ’s fault) early on such as permitting/septic issues, and thankfully MTZ was able to help us navigate those and get them straightened out, which would have been a nightmare for us if we’d needed to figure all that out on our own.

We’re very happy with the quality of the work, and friends and family have a lot of nice things to say about the new room and patio when they come over. We had been worried since we bought our house whether or not it would be worth it to commit to a job like this, but very glad we did and very glad we found MTZ to do the work.

There were a couple of times where maybe communication could have been better, probably on both ends, and particularly through some personnel changes/subcontractor issues, but ultimately the work is of higher quality than we could have hoped for and we’re very happy with the finished product.

Called MTZ and spoke with Jose . He came out immediately and gave an estimate which was quiet reasonable compared to other companies we contacted.

Work was done before scheduled date, all workers were prompt, professional and polite. Other contractors turned down this project because of difficulty.

Jose kept us informed and the work is beyond what we expected. Thanks to Jose for his A+ customer service we would not hesitate to recommend MTZ.

So, What Does a Sunroom in Hixson Actually Cost?

Sunrooms cost more than a covered porch because they are a full four-season structure: a real foundation, insulated framing, and windows built to hold up to Tennessee humidity. In most cases, it ties into your home’s existing roofline or HVAC system.

Here’s what recent projects have cost:

Mini-split HVAC, upgraded insulated glass, and matching a complex roofline all move the number upward from there.

Every quote is specific to your home, your foundation type, and how you plan to use the room. The free 3D design consultation is where we walk through real numbers for your project.

Financing through HFS Financial is available if you would rather spread the cost out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Hixson is unincorporated, so building permits for a sunroom addition are issued through the Hamilton County Building Inspection Department rather than a city office. We handle the application and every required inspection as part of your project.
Most sunrooms take between 8-12 weeks from permit approval to final walkthrough, though the exact timeline depends on foundation type, window lead times, and whether HVAC is part of the scope.
In most cases, yes. Sunroom construction is contained to the footprint of the room itself, so the rest of your yard stays accessible. We will walk you through the specific work zone before crews start.
That is part of what the 3D rendering is for. We design the roofline, siding, and trim to tie into your existing home rather than looking like an obvious add-on. We account for that during the design phase.
A three-season room uses standard insulated windows and screens, built for spring through fall use. A four-season room adds heating and cooling, typically a mini-split system, along with upgraded insulation so the space holds a comfortable temperature year-round.
Some Hixson neighborhoods, particularly newer developments, do have HOA design guidelines. We can help you gather what your HOA needs for approval, but you will want to check your neighborhood’s covenants before we finalize the design.

Hixson sits along the Tennessee River just north of downtown Chattanooga. Growth picked up after TVA completed the Chickamauga Dam in 1940, and the community has been a favorite for river-adjacent living ever since. Because Hixson is unincorporated, permitting for a sunroom addition runs through the Hamilton County Building Inspection Department rather than a separate city office, and we manage that process on every build here. For a sense of what makes the area worth building in, Visit Chattanooga’s guide to Greenway Farms covers the trails and creek access that make Hixson feel more like a river town than a suburb.
