Do I need a permit for a covered patio in Chattanooga, TN?

Yes, most covered patio structures in Hamilton County require a building permit, especially if they're attached to your home or include electrical components like lighting or fan installation. The good news is we manage all of that on your behalf.

How long does it take to build a covered patio?

Most projects we complete in the Chattanooga area take between four and eight weeks from the start of construction. Permitting timelines, material lead times, and the size and complexity of the structure all factor into that window. We give you a realistic estimate before we break ground and keep you updated throughout, so there are no surprises.

What materials hold up best in Chattanooga's climate?

Chattanooga gets hot, humid summers, cold snaps in winter, and plenty of rain in between. We recommend materials built for those conditions: composite decking for horizontal surfaces, pressure-treated or hardwood framing, and corrosion-resistant hardware. We walk every homeowner through each option so you can make the call that fits your style, your property, and your budget.

Can I add an outdoor kitchen or screened porch to my covered patio?

Absolutely. Adding an outdoor kitchen or a screened porch upgrade is far more cost-effective when it's planned from the beginning rather than tacked on later. We design structures with future add-ons in mind, so even if you start simple, the bones are there to grow with you when you're ready.

The Screened Porch Hixson Homeowners Actually Want

We’ve built over 100 screened porches across the state, and the story’s almost always the same: homeowners have a yard they love, evenings they want to enjoy, and bugs, glare, or unpredictable weather that keep pushing them back inside.

A well-built screened porch changes that completely.

At ProDeck Builders Chattanooga, we start every project with a free same-day 3D design so you can see your new space before a single board goes up.

That’s not something every crew around here offers, and it matters, because you deserve to feel confident about what you’re getting, not just hopeful.

We build new screened porches and retrofit existing structures, and we do it with high-quality materials like the ScreenEze screening system and Trex composite options that hold up to Tennessee weather year after year.

What Hixson Homeowners Say About Their New Screened Porches

We think the best thing we can do is let our clients do the talking. Here’s what folks around Hixson and the greater Chattanooga area have had to say about working with us.

I have dreamed of having a screened in porch for years and for one reason or another it hasn’t happened. But now, at 60, I’m a newlywed and my husband shares the same dream for the condo we bought together.

So, obviously, we wanted to have as smooth of a process as possible. I started doing research and HAD to call the company with all the 5 star reviews. The build is starting soon but I’m already so impressed.

The process of design and getting an estimate has been so easy and pleasant!! Matt Kiser has been delightful and great at following up with each step.

He even did everything to get the permits from the county and to get permission from our HOA! It’s so nice to do business with a company that does what they say!!

We had a very good experience with ProDeck. They replaced our old deck with a covered screened porch.

Chris, our project manager, has been excellent with communication and keeping us informed about the entire process. The deck looks beautiful and we anticipate many years enjoying the space.

What Does a Screened Porch Cost in Hixson, TN?

The honest answer: it depends. But we can share real numbers from past projects to set expectations:

A 252 sq. ft. screened porch, including a 475 sq. ft. stamped concrete patio, a "better" cover option, ScreenEze screening, Hardie siding knee wall, and a storm door, came in at $72,000.
A 256 sq. ft. porch with a premium "best" cover, ScreenEze, MiraTEC post and beam trimming, tongue and groove ceiling, Trex composite decking, Trex railing, and accent lights was quoted at $91,000.
A third 256 sq. ft. project, featuring MiraTEC trimming, a wood-burning fireplace, ScreenEze, stamped concrete, tongue-and-groove ceiling with gloss coating, and natural stone veneer, came to $81,000.

These are past estimates. Your project will land somewhere different depending on what you’re going for. Reach out, and we’ll give you a number that actually means something.

Five factors that'll move your price up or down:

Size of the porch: Straightforward enough: more square footage means more materials and more labor. A 150 sq. ft. screened porch is a very different job from a 350 sq. ft. one, and the price reflects that.
Cover and roof option: The tier of cover you choose, basic, better, or the full premium package, is one of the biggest cost drivers. Premium covers with tongue-and-groove ceilings and gloss coatings cost more, but they also look and feel completely different.
Screening system: Not all screening is equal. The ScreenEze track system we use delivers a cleaner, tighter result than standard stapled screening, and it's priced accordingly. That said, it's the system we believe in, and the one our clients are happiest with long-term.
Add-ons and features: A wood-burning fireplace, accent lighting, custom railing, and stone veneer are all beautiful upgrades that add real comfort and curb appeal to your outdoor space. They also add to the budget.
Foundation and site work: If your project involves a new stamped concrete patio or any significant ground prep, that factors into the overall quote. Some backyards need more prep work than others, and we'd rather be upfront about that.

Your Budget and Timeline Are Safe With Us

We’ve heard enough renovation horror stories to know that budget overruns and delayed projects are two things homeowners genuinely dread, and we take both seriously on every job we run.

Think about what a screened porch actually gives you: outdoor dining with the family and a covered space for entertaining guests, rain or shine. Spread a $72,000 project across ten or fifteen years of daily use, and that’s just a few dollars a day. You’re adding real value to your home and your lifestyle.

We know construction can feel disruptive. Nobody wants their backyard turned into a job site for weeks on end. Most of our screened porch builds wrap in a single day, and we respect your home while we’re in it. We show up, we work clean, and we leave the space better than we found it.

FAQs About Screened Porch Building in Hixson, TN

How long does it take to build a screened porch?

Most of our screened porch installs in the Hixson area wrap up in a single day. Larger or more complex projects, like one with a fireplace or premium decking, will run longer. We’ll always be upfront about the timeline before we start so there are no surprises on your end.

Do screened porches add value to a home?

They do, and often more than homeowners expect. A well-built screened porch extends your usable living space, improves curb appeal, and is a genuine selling point in the Chattanooga real estate market.

What's the best screening system for a porch in Tennessee?

We use the ScreenEze track system on our builds, and we recommend it confidently. Tennessee summers mean heat, humidity, bugs, and the occasional wild weather. ScreenEze holds up to all of it, installs tightly without sagging, and gives you an unobstructed view of your yard.

Do I need a permit to build a screened porch in Hixson, TN?

Most screened porch projects in the Hixson and Hamilton County area do require a permit. The specifics depend on your property, lot size, and the scope of the project. We handle the permitting process as part of our work, so you don’t have to figure that out on your own.
